Nr.1. Okavango Delta and the Chobe National Park Safari, PLUS BMW Cape - & Garden Route Motorcycle Safari.

David and Aniela have done it again! Last year they took us to Kruger National Park and we had the best week of our lives. This time they arranged a fabulous week in the Okavango Delta and the Chobe National Park. This was so different to our Kruger trip but equally as well organised by David and Aniela. We were met at our hotel in Jo’burg and taken to the airport by David for our trip to Botswana. Everything was thought of and our stay in Botswana was magical. The accommodation was not 5-star but was exactly as it should be for the type of holiday we wanted. We even had Warthogs sleeping in our toilet at night! We have never enjoyed a holiday as much as this one. We saw so many animals it defies description! Hundreds of Elephants and Buffalo and Antelope and Lions and Hippo and Crocodile and so many more. And we were actually amongst them!

Then we travelled to Cape Town to join David’s 11-day Cape & Garden Route Motorbike Safari! What a fantastic country South Africa is! David showed us so much of his beautiful country and, once again, his organisational skills were incredible. Everything was so perfect it was hard to believe. Absolutely nothing went wrong! The accommodation David had chosen was better than 5-star! Everywhere we went was nicer than the last place. We don’t know how David does it. It must be down to intense personal research before he chooses. Exactly the same with David’s choices of where to eat, both at lunch time and in the evening. We didn’t ride the bikes but travelled in the support vehicle with David and so could enjoy his incredible knowledge of South Africa. He is obviously, and very justifiably, proud of his beautiful country and enjoys sharing it with travellers from all over the world.

We couldn’t recommend a better guide than David Malan. We couldn’t recommend a more gracious tour organiser than Aniela Malan and their wonderful hospitality will be remembered by us for ever.

Until the next time!

Nr.2. Okavango Delta and the Chobe National Park Safari.

Hello Sunshine,

Well, we've just had the best 2 weeks of our lives and can't stop talking
about it!!! What a weird feeling putting on the stilettos and executive
gear again. Give me the comfy safari gear and daggy look any day.

We did hear the sad news of the elephant incident at Chobe and it really hit hard as we'd only just
left there 2 days before. There were only sketchy details but it still hit
us like a lead balloon. It really brought home the fact that it can be a
dangerous adventure. Thank you for keeping us safe while in your care. On
our safari walk in Gunns, we were only metres from a herd of elephant that
were shaking the palm nuts from enormous trees. We even helped Mum climb a
fallen tree to get a better view and take photos! Our guides at Gunns Camp
(Besetti and Cady) couldn't believe Mum was 72 years old.

Although Chobe was to be a little more relaxed, we did anything but! The
minute we got there, guess what I saw and chased after...a gorgeous monkey
that was sitting in the safari truck. I knew you'd be thrilled to hear! We
immediately lined up for the sunset boat cruise and absolutely loved it.
Like you said, the quantity of animals was amazing. There were herds of
elephant, herds of giraffe and hippos everywhere. It literally took my
breath away and I felt like I was dreaming!

Who wants to sleep in when Africa has so much to offer? So, at 5.45 am the
next morning, we were in the front seat of the safari truck all rugged up
for another adventure. Within the first 15 minutes, we witnessed a
magnificent leopard demolishing a kudu that it had dragged up a tree. How
lucky were we! On the way back from the morning safari, we called in on the
leopard again to see what it was up to. Here it was, fast asleep just
dangling over a branch with that "OOOOh, I ate too much" look all over it's
face! Quite a few people we spoke to said they had yet to see a leopard and
here we are with truckloads of photos of them.

With the morning safari over and a delicious breakfast, we set off for the
10.30 am village walk. What an eye-opener that was. They'd just killed a cow
and were selling it in the village. No, not the nicely plastic wrapped meat
that we're used to. The meat was laid out on a piece of tin, under a tree,
with a dog keeping a close watch! What another amazing experience to add to
our enormous list.

Because the morning safari was so fantastic, at 2.45 pm, we were once again,
set up in the safari truck ready to go. Not to be outdone by the leopard
sighting, we got to see 4 lioness that had killed a buffalo and looked like
me after pigging out at the pancake house. They were on their backs, fast
asleep with their feet just flopped open. I was on the other side of the
truck and still managed to take these photos!!! Talk about "up close and
personal." National Geographic eat your heart out.

Even though we were to leave at 10 am the next morning, we didn't want to
miss a thing. So, at 5.30 am, Mum had her balloons and candles for her
birthday, then it was back in the safari truck for even more adventure. We
witnessed an endless herd of buffalo crossing the river. It was just like
the Sarengetti (having a blonde moment and not sure of the spelling). As if
that wasn't enough, later we saw them all again only metres away. Just when
you think that's all of them, along come even more. Amazing stuff.

After saying goodbye to Chobe, adventure still lay ahead. We still had the
interesting border crossing to Zambia and yet another customs experience.

David and Aniela, thank you for organising this most fantastic, exciting and
exhilarating adventure of our lives. All I can say is that I can't wait to
get back to Africa!!!

Warm regards,

Leigh Caldwell and family of 4, July 2007
